Exams motivate students to study harder + письмо «last week we had a sports competition at school. I was the third» (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

There are a lot of discussions about education nowadays. Some people are convinced that any exam can encourage a pupil to learn a subject thoroughly, while others believe that it conversely may distract students from the educational process.

To begin with, I want to point out that exams definitely motivate pupils to study harder. Firstly, the fact that you will be tested on almost all difficult topics during an exam makes you learn practically all of them. Secondly, it becomes a

pupil`s goal to pass an exam successfully. That is why the educational process seems fascinating in this case. Thirdly, there are students who want to get the highest score in exams to become the best pupil in their class.

Thus, they try to learn as many topics as possible.

Nevertheless, some opine that a reminder of future exams only disturbs pupils while learning. First of all, a desire to learn something disappears when you risk

failing in an examination because of anxiety. Moreover, if a student feels that they will not pass an exam, their motivation diminishes too.

Anyway, I disagree with my opponents. If you finally fight your stress before exams, it gives you a reason for being proud of yourself, and therefore a desire to learn something gets stronger. In addition, some pupils become upset about their fails. They can start to learn a subject harder if they feel that they are not prepared enough for an exam.

Summing up, I want to stress that exams motivate pupils to be well-educated.

Dear Sheila,

Thanks for your recent letter. It was great to hear from you again. I`m sorry I

haven`t answered earlier, but I was really busy at school. I`m glad that you`re

fine.

In your letter you asked me about some sports. Well, we have a lot of sports clubs in our school, but I don`t play sports in my free time. You know, I think that not everyone should do some sports. Actually, every kind of sports for me is only a way to get into shape.

By the way, I want to ask you some questions about your kitten. What is your kitten name? Is your kitten playful? How old is your kitten?

Unfortunately, I have to go now because my mum is calling me.
