Manned space flight – a promising future or a dead end? (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

It goes without saying that mankind has always been a race of explorers. Manned space flight has been a hotly-debated topic since the Space Race of the 1960s. Some people claim that manned space flight helps us to understand universe and its place. Others think that International Space Station’s future is at risk since some countries have retired their shuttles and stopped taking astronauts into space.

In my opinion, manned space flights are very dangerous and unnecessary. Firstly, it is very expensive to organize manned flights. Fuel costs enormous amount of money. While unmanned flights are cheaper since the weigh is less and they give the same benefits. Secondly, the focus of the government and individuals should be on fixing the problems on our planet. We should solve our problems: pollution, global warming, wars, incurable diseases.

What is more, we can say that this is the technological dead-end. There is no case of wasting money because this money we won’t be able to get back, no one knows whether other planets are habitable or not.

However, some people believe. Firstly, people have always been wanting to explore everything around them and as soon as they had explored either mountains, sea, space they looked forward to exploring something new to map the planet. The main motive for exploration-humans curiosity. Secondly, people are more essential for this mission rather than robots because of the quicker mind. If there were unpredictable situations which require headpiece, robots would not be able to behave. Everything they do, they do according to the plan. Thirdly, manned space flights give the different nations the chance to see themselves togerther in one activity. In the International Space Station there are scientists from different spheres. In this team there are best representatives in different kinds of knowledge. Last but not least, these flights are essential to the long term of survival for humanity. Due to our bad attitude towards our environment, in the near future we will need another planet to live on it.

But if this is so, why can’t people explore those things which have not been discovered yet? There are a lot of things we can’t explain here on Earth. For instance, The Bermuda Triangle is a loosely-defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of

aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Furthermore, we can unite ourselves in other organizations like Green peace, UN. We can line up our forces on exploring new cures against cancer and other diseases, exploring our planet, overcoming the pollution. Lastly, I’m not against space flights, I’m against flights with humans. We can develop more advanced robots and send them to the space.

All things considered, although manned space flights meet our demands in discovering everything around us, unite best minds on one station from different countries, I think it is only a waste of money. We should care rather about our planet and its problems than on something that we are not particularly sure of - nobody knows is there a life at space and other planets or not.
