The question of vicious addictions has been currently important and unsettling during many decades and nowadays it still arouses the wide concern. Some people consider drug reliance as one of the most serious illnesses of our age, while others think that the harmfulness of narcotic substances is exaggerated.

As far as I am concerned, drug dependence leads to a fair amount of life-threatening consequences. First of all, drug intake strongly affects the human body; it weakens the immune system and blood vessels, causes stroke and brain damage. Besides, addicts have such behavioral problems as increased aggressiveness and paranoia.

In addition, heavy drug users usually prioritize the substance's effect over their personal connections and consequently give up on their families and friends.

However, some people say that the negative impact of drugs is overrated. They tend to focus on a fact that some drugs have a relaxing and soothing effect and many artists and musicians use it as a source of inspiration. Furthermore, carefully dosed drugs could make the physical and mental pain bearable and cure some fatal diseases.

At the same time, I am sure that chemicals using habits badly influence a human's life as drugs abuse may be the reason for adverse side effects and mental problems.

In conclusion, I am strongly convinced that drug addiction ultimately destroys a person&襬s life, but everyone can decide for himself and take his own responsibility.
