IT IS THE FAULT OF THE PARENTS IF A CHILD COMMITS A CRIME (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

The issue of children’s crimes is relevant nowadays but still it is rather controversial. Some people state that it is the parents’ guilt if a child commits an offence. Others claim that parents are are not to blame for their child’s commission of a crime.

I am inclined to believe that parents are not at fault for their child’s crime. To begin with, every person’s life comes down to individual choices. Children, who commit crimes, do it in accordance with their convictions and are responsible for their actions and consequences without blaming parents for offences. Another argument is that society is part and parcel of personal development. If society has the pernicious effect on a child, he/she may commit a crime that parents will not be guilty of.

However, some people tend to believe that parents are at fault for their child’s crime.

As they see it, children look up to their parents and tend to imitate their actions, so if parents behave inappropriately and do not make it up, their child might take it after and result in the commission of crime blaming parents for it.

I cannot agree with the idea above. My opponents fail to understand that children tend to lead a more decent life in order to protect family honour, so children cannot let parents down committing a crime only if the society does not influence them badly. In this case, the society, but not parents, is at fault for the child’s offence.

All in all, there are two points of view on the issue of children’s crimes. I am strongly convinced that parents are not at fault for their child’s crime.
