The question of whether the conquest of space was the main accomplishment of the 20th century will always be controversial. Although many people think that space exploration was vitally important, others disagree.
In my opinion, the fact that man overcame gravity is the greatest achievement. Firstly, the impact of space exploration is visible. Telecommunication and navigation in transport is our daily routine. However, not many people think that it could be invented thanks to space exploration.
Secondly, from telephones to the Internet, navigators in cars to satellites, we are submerged in a sea of discoveries and inventions made possible by space exploration. It means that we should appreciate the progress made by scientists in the 20th century.
However, not all people are ready to share my point of view. They claim that then and now we have more problems to deal with on earth. The government should think about healthcare and education first. Instead of that, they spend too much money on space exploration, albeit we do not see some new investigations.
I cannot fully agree with the statement above. I believe that space exploration and other spheres of life are equals. We cannot develop them separately. If we stop exploring space, we will soon lose our progress. There is no education without science and vice versa.
To sum up, I hope we will develop all spheres simultaneously, but, as I see things, space exploration is one of the most crucial achievements. If we had not explored space, we would not have had such technologies now.
