Some people believe that English should be the only foreign language taught at our schools. Others think that German, French and Spanish should continue (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

Knowing at least one foreign language is necessary in the modern world, because it is the main means of communication. Some people think that students should learn only English because it is the international language, but others claim that foreign languages, such as German, French and Spanish are also important.

In my opinion, schools should teach children only English for a number of reasons. To begin with, English is the international language.

A lot of books and films from different countries are translated to this language. Besides, signs at airports of all countries are written in English, and if you know the language, you can easily navigate the airport. In addition, in hotels, shops and cafes staff speak English and you can use it to be understood.

However, my opponents consider that other common languages should also be taught at schools. They have two arguments. Firstly, these languages are spoken in more than one country. Thus, you can speak French not only in France but also in other countries. Secondly, my opponents claim that learning languages help students to be more educated. People knowing several foreign languages are considered intelligent and they are more respected.

I can argue with my opponents. French, Spanish and German are not as widespread as English. For example, if you speak French in Germany, you will be hardly understood. Moreover, students have a large number of school subjects and they do not have time to learn more than one language. Children can learn other languages as an extracurricular activity.

To sum up, teaching at least one foreign language at school is necessary, but a student should make her or his own choice regarding learning other ones.
