The Great Gatsby (Английская Литература)In December I read a book that most of you might have heard of. It is “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American novelist and short story writer, born in 1896 and died in 1940. He finished four novels: This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night. A fifth, unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon, was published posthumously.
Lets pass over to the “The Great Gatsby”.
The story takes place in the United States in 1920s. The narrator, Nick Carraway moves into a house on Long Island. His next-door neighbor, Mr Gatsby, lives in a large luxurious house, where he often holds parties in which he never takes part. Some time later Nick gets to know Gatsby better and little by little, they become friends. Probably, the most important point that Nick found out about his new friend is that Gatsby has been in love with Nick's cousin Daisy for five years. All these years Gatsby lived dreaming about meeting Daisy again but when it finally happens, he feels disillusioned. He spent so much time thinking about what their meeting would be like and how perfect Daisy is, but in reality Daisy was just Daisy and nothing more.
In my opinion, this is exactly the main idea: you always have to remember that a person is just a person and you should keep in mind that if you don't want to feel disillusioned, you have to lower your expectations.
